Pastor King

Pastor King was born in Lewisburg, Pa. His parents moved to Scranton soon afterward where his father worked for the Defense Department during World War II. When Horace was five years old he attended kindergarten at Marywood University but at the end of the school year his family moved into their own house in Dalton, Pa where he grew up and went on to Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pa where he received a B.S in Music Education. Pastor King received an assistantship to Miami of Ohio where he went to work on his Masters in music. While there he answered God's call to the pastoral ministry and transferred to Drew University where he received his Master of Divinity and later his Doctor of Ministry.

Pastor King served the Clifford-Lenoxville charge in the Scranton, Pa district while at Drew and upon graduation and ordination as Elder he went to Embury UMC in Scranton, Pa for seven years. He moved to Firwood UMC in Wilkes-Barre, Pa in 1976 and remained there for nine years. Waverly UMC was the next charge and after 3 years there took a leave of absence from pastoring to do some personal soul searching. While on leave, he published the book "Together in Trust"-a collection of wedding meditations which went through 3 printings and is still being used for marriage enrichment classes. He also published a bible study/devotional on the Gospel of John ( which is still on sale).

After serving as interim pastor at the Wellsville UCC church Horace felt God calling him back into the United Methodist pastorate. He was assigned to Fly Creek UMC in upstate NY where he remained for five years and then transferred to Montrose UMC in Montrose, Pa. He remained there for seven years and in 2004 was assigned to the Ogden-Hillcrest UMC.

Horace is married to Marie, a retired history teacher and presently a substitute teacher in the Chenango Forks school district. She also works as a part-time news reporter/announcer for WPEL (Montrose Broadcasting Corporation) in Montrose. Horace and Marie have two sons, Steven and Jonathan, a daughter-in-law-Kathie and 4 grandaugters, Danielle, Amanda, Jennifer and Samantha  and one great-grandson, Landon. and one great-granddaughter, Adrienn
